Why study in The Netherlands?
Many English-taught programs
All Dutch universities offer an English version of any programs taught in Dutch. This opens doors for many international students and makes Dutch universities a melting pot of culture. Dutch people are the best non-native English speakers in the world therefore communication in the country will be easy. Learning Dutch alongside your degree is highly recommended if you plan to live and work in the country after your studies.
Hassle free Student visa and Schengen visa application
As an International Student wishing to study in Netherlands for a period that is longer than three months you’ll have to get authorisation for temporary stay (MVV – Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf). The MVV Application Process takes anywhere from three months or less. This process is fairly simple and we will guide you step by step.
Affordable degrees and living expenses
In comparison to other popular study countries such as the UK, USA and Australia The Netherlands is an affordable place to study. For example a bachelor degree in The Netherlands generally costs around €8000 for non-EU students whereas in The UK it can cost around £15,200. Additionally, Dutch universities provide the option to pay your tuition in several instalments.
Year Orientation after completion of your studies
A Zoekjaar Hoogopgeleiden (orientation year visa) is a year during which non-EU internationals can live and work in the Netherlands without a work permit. With a Zoekjaar visa, internationals have free access to the labour market for up to twelve months after their visa has been granted. Unlike some countries, The Netherlands will not expect you to leave the country after you complete your studies. This is your chance to look for internships, permanent employment or consider furthering your studies in the following year.
Cheap student housing
In The Netherlands, students usually don’t live on campus but live in student houses across the city, that way you become very familiar with the city you study in. Student housing in the Netherlands is affordable as there are different living options. You can choose to live alone in a studio apartment or live in vibrant shared housing. Sometimes it is possible to get a rent subsidy (huurtoeslag). An average room in The Netherlands costs somewhere between € 400 to € 600 a month.
Work in the summer
If you’re a foreign student (non–EU) and you have a valid residence permit with the aim to study, you can work alongside your studies (either full-time seasonal work in June, July and August, or part-time work of no more than ten hours a week). In this case your Dutch employer does need a work permit for you. What better way to spend your summer if you don’t travel to your home country than making money!
